Mark
was born in Wichita, Kansas
in 1956
and grew up in California,
Colorado, Ohio
and Florida.
At Rollins College in Winterpark,
Florida,
he spent
his junior year
in Freiburg,
Germany
before graduating with
a B.A.
in
History and German in 1978.
In 1982, he received his Master
of
Divinity
from Eden Theological
Seminary in St. Louis,
Missouri,
and a Master of Sacred
Theology
from Yale Divinity
School in
New Haven,
Connecticut, in 1984.

Mark was
ordained in 1982 and served as the Associate Pastor of
the
1800-member First Church of Christ Congregational U.C.C.
in
Glastonbury, Connecticut.
In 1986, he was hired as the national Secretary of Youth
Education and
Ministry Resources for The United Church of
Christ Board of Homeland Ministries' denomination
headquarters in New York City, New York.
Dr. Charles L. Burns, the
Florida Conference Minister, asked him if he
would be
interested in serving as the organizing
Pastor for a new church
start in Naples, Florida, in 1989.

Mark met with the committee and began serving what grew
rapidly to become Mayflower United Church of Christ.
In
November, 1993, Mark accepted the call to serve as Pastor of
Oakland Christian Church U.C.C. in Chuckatuck, Virginia.

In our community, he has served as a
Director on the
Board for Meals on Wheels,
the American Cancer
Society,
the Colonial Virginia Boy Scouts, and
the United Church of Christ Southern Conference.
He currently serves on the Board of
the United Church Retirement Homes,
the Eastern Virginia Association Church and Ministry Committee
and
as President of the Advisory Council
for the new Lake Prince Retirement Center.

Mark
met his wife Heather (Hanchett)
when
both worked summers
on
the
staff at the
United Church of Christ Deering Conference
Center
in
Deering, NH 1974 - 1978.
They
married
in 1991,
and live in Chuckatuck.

He is a scholar of the Civil War, and
enjoys studying history and religion, reading, reconnoitering battlefields,
art, music, soccer,
football, movies,
and annual trips overseas. |
