               Who are we and what are we about?

Oakland Christian Church is a community of Faith, of God’s people, by God’s grace, and for God’s mission in the world. That commitment and dedication will never end, for our God is with us. We feel God’s Spirit in our lives. We see God’s Spirit at work all around us. So it is today, and so it has been for 130 years.

In all that time, Oakland Christian Church has had a distinguished
record of ministry and service to the people of Chuckatuck, Suffolk,
our wider Tidewater / Hampton Roads community, and to the world.
This is a church that gives their faith life through action, and positive Christian witness through service.

We are blessed that our church is a growing church, growing in our understanding of the mission and ministry to which God calls us in this time and place. We are blessed that our church is growing in spiritual life and faith, which empowers us to care and to share with all as children of God.

Oakland Christian Church is a historical church with contemporary concerns. It is a large country church, old in history and young in spirit. It is a church grateful for its past, thankful for the opportunities of today, and eager for ministry and to be of service in the future.
It is a church where every person is important, from the youngest to the oldest, from the newest member, to those who have been members for more than 50 years, from the family joining us in worship for the first time, to families that have been with the church for 5 generations. 

We continue to be a people who gather for worship, to learn and share God’s word, as a community and fellowship in faith, hope and love, and to depart to serve in God’s name. For the Spirit of the Lord is upon us! Thanks be to our God.
