THE REV. DR. JANET BOYD WEIDLER
The Reverand Dr. Janet Boyd Weidler comes to Oakland from Hendersonville, North Carolina. She is a "native southerner,”who grew up in Georgia and Alabama, and graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN in 1978. She holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Union Presbyterian Seminary, and was ordained in 1983 at St. John's UCC in Richmond, VA.
She has served pastorates in the South, New England, and Pennsylvania. Her primary focus of ministry over the last 20 years has been intentional interim ministry, which she finds very fulfilling. She enjoys leading congregations through the time "in-between" settled pastors, and sees the interim period as an opportunity for exploration, discovery, renewal and growth, which strengthens a congregation and prepares people to openly embrace a new pastor and a new future.
Married 33 years, Janet's husband Richard is also a UCC minister, and is the Pastor of First Congregational UCC in Hendersonville, NC. Janet & Richard and family will have a "commuter marriage/family life" while Janet is serving here at Oakland, and they all look forward to this newest chapter in their "marriage,
family and ministry adventure."
Janet & Richard have a son Andrew, a 2011 graduate of Rhodes
College, who is now living and working in Hendersonville. They also have a daughter Rebecca, who will graduate this May from Davidson College
in Davidson, NC, and a "canine child," a 5-year-old male standard poodle named "Mishka."
Richard, Mishka and a number of great "movers & shakers" from Oakland Christian Church helped Janet move into the parsonage this March. She is happily getting settled in at home and at church and is very excited to be here at Oakland as our intentional interim pastor!
